You may be wondering, why choose Kneading Hands for your massage needs? What sets us apart? Obviously, we know you have a lot of choices when it comes to massage! We think you should choose us, but you may be asking yourself why? We would love to answer that question!
Our History
Founded in 2008, we are a grassroots, self-made, start from scratch business that has a passion for helping our clients reconnect with their bodies, get out of pain, and rediscover what alignment feels like!
Initially, we rented space by the hour from an existing massage practice on Lincoln Avenue, downtown Steamboat Springs.
It was a quirky place, neon fountains on the wall, toys scattered in the corner, and an extremely noisy jeweler next door. But it worked, at least as a starting location, at least for a year. We rented here for one year on an as-needed basis. After this time, we outgrew this location and desperately wanted a space of our own. A place to decorate the way we wanted, quiet neighbors, and most importantly a shift in energy.
That is when we found 306 Oak Street. In the beginning, we rented one room, then slowly over time we grew to occupy more and more of the building. We now have four treatment rooms.
Located in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs our historic building is over 100 years old. Conveniently located, we possess a comforting, homey feel that you can truly sink and relax into.
We Are Not A Spa
So what are we? We are not a spa, not to knock spas, that’s just not who we are. Facials aren’t on our radar, we don’t cut or wax hair (though we have some excellent places to refer you to), we won’t exfoliate your pores or pluck your eyebrows. We don’t have paraffin baths or vishi showers or herbal hybernations.
So enough with what we don’t do, what do we do?
Why Choose Kneading Hands For Your Next Massage
Massage is what we do. We are massage — all shapes and sizes, we love massage, we breathe massage. No fluff, no buff. Just the real deal, holistic, amazing, intuitive massage. We love touch. Healthy, happy, encouraging, amazing, healing touch.
We create a space where you feel good being you, where you feel nurtured and supported in your journey. Where judgment has no place and loving compassion lives. We take the time to listen to your needs, spoken and unspoken.
We have listening down to an art. The subtle cues that you don’t even realize are there, telling us to just shut up and let you feel yourself breathe. We listen to the body. It’s our guide. And what a guide it is!
Take reflexology for instance. In our foot lies the key to all that ails. We can tell that your lower back is in pain by feeling a nodule in the arch of your foot closest to your heel. We can feel the rhythms of your cranial sacral fluid and tell that you have been feeling “off’. By pulling out a tuning fork, we might discover that the pain in your right shoulder is associated with a trauma from childhood.
We are constantly seeking answers to the mysteries the body presents.
We are continually seeking to further our knowledge through continuing education opportunities, to learn new and innovative methods to help heal the body. While we do not call ourselves healers, we love to help facilitate healing in the body. We are proud of the work we do, but we are even prouder of the work you and your body does. We help you reconnect so that the innate healing capabilities your body is designed to facilitate can operate at maximum capacity.
Oh and…we care! This isn’t just a job. We consider this a pursuit, a passion, a dream. Sound lofty? Well, it is, but that’s what we love! Working with you as a team to unwind the muddle that has built up over years and years of abuse, misuse, and trauma.
Treatment Plans
What does this look like? Well, it depends. It depends on you. Your comfort level. How quickly you want to tackle things. It may mean hot/cold contrast stonework. It could mean cupping. Or maybe Raindrop Technique Treatment, or inter-oral TMJ work. It could be light pressure, or it might mean deep. We may see you for many sessions, or it might be just one. We may advise a rigorous self-care routine between massage treatments, or collaborating with local PT’s. No two plans are alike, as no two people are alike. Come check us out and see for yourself, I am telling you we are the real deal.
We are proud of our strong repeat client base and pride ourselves on the time, energy and care we devote to each and every individual whether they are coming to Kneading Hands for the first time or have been a loyal client for years.
Kneading Hands offers an array of massage modalities including Swedish, deep tissue, sports, hot stone, aromatherapy, lymphatic, prenatal, craniosacral, specialized TMJD massage, Reiki, chair massage, and more.
Some of our more unique treatments include cupping and raindrop therapy. See below for more information on both of these amazing treatments.
Cupping Therapy and It’s Benefits:
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy based on the belief that certain health problems may be caused by stagnant blood as well as poor energy flow throughout the body.
The reverse pressure and suction provided by cupping is believed to loosen muscles and encourage blood flow throughout the body. Cupping is also thought to help high blood pressure. This technique can be used to relieve back and neck pain, anxiety, fatigue, stiff muscles, migraines and is even thought to help reduce cellulite!
Raindrop Technique and It’s Benefits:
The Raindrop Technique using a combination of massage and essential oils, applied on your spine and feet, to bring about a more homeostatic state. Young Living’s therapeutic grade essential oils are administered on specific points on the feet and spine, designed to bring balance to the body with its relaxing, mild application. This Technique is a gentle application of essential oils and massage without using aggressive techniques.
Essential Oils Used for Raindrop Technique:
Valor (blend): cleanses the energy field, aligns and balances
Oregano: attacks viruses and bacteria
Thyme: attacks viruses and bacteria
Basil: anti-spasmodic, headache relief
Cypress: increases circulation
Wintergreen: anti-inflammatory/anti-spasmodic, analgesic (pain reliever)
Marjoram: relaxes musculature, lowers blood pressure
Peppermint: anti-spasmodic, assists in “pushing” in all other oils
Aroma Siez (blend): relaxing & soothing
