With the snow this weekend, I was given a great opportunity to slow down and reflect. I visited a few shops I have never been into, went to a movie, and played a game of Scrabble. I even found a dog dish to help my dog slow down when he eats. Far too often in life, I feel that we forget the simple process of slowing down, especially in our adrenaline driven community! Yet doing so can have tremendous effects on our physical and mental health. I have included a list of ways to help this process:
1) Notice the small things. A beautiful sunset, the way the sun glistens off the aspen leaves, or the chirp of birds.
2) Count your blessings and keep perspective.
3) Avoid comparing. We all have varying struggles as well as accomplishments.
4) Find joy every day. Every day think of one thing that brought you joy.
5) Live in the moment. Try not to plan ever second of your day.
6) Control the controllables. Change what you can and don’t stress the rest.
7) Breathe.
