It seems with all the germs floating around lately that many have been getting sick! Wouldn’t it be nice to have cough drops less all the sugar (making it harder for our body to recover). Horehound is an effective herb for loosening phlegm trapped inside our bodies, and can be made into an excellent healing aide easily at home!
To make Horehound Cough Drops
- Make a strong horehound tea by, bringing 1 cup of water to a boil, add 3/4 cup of dried horehound, stir in the herbs for 1 minute. Cover the pan and remove from the heat. Allow tea to steep for 30 minutes. Then strain out the herbs.
- Butter a large pan.
- Add 1 1/2 cups of honey and 1/4 tsp cream of tarter to your strong tea. Bring this mixture to a boil again. Using a candy thermometer, boil and continuously stir until the temperature reaches 300 degrees. (This takes longer than you might expect, if you have a friend you can take turns stirring the mixture).
- Once your mixture has reached the proper temperature, pour into the previously buttered pan, quickly spread the mixture around the pan. Allow mixture to cool and then break into nice bit size pieces.
- Store in the refrigerator and use as you would a cough drop.
Happy healing!
